on my way to my morning cofffee
doesn't look like day right?

I'm writing my exchange application right now. I started yesterday, got nowhere, tried again today and made some sort of progress. It's due on Friday but i'm at an art excursion so I set the deadline for myself for tomorrow. It seems to be failing. I guess i'll just have to come to school early to hand it in... to her office that isn't going to be open? :S Well that's a problem.

Frankly, I'm completely stressed out about my application and I don't think it's good enough. Unlike other people, (to my shock) they seem to have multiple sources to help edit their letter and make it perfect. Mine is nowhere near perfect and on the sheet it clearly says "poorly constructed paperwork will considerably disadvantage an application". Now that a very worrying warning. MY LETTER HAS NO STRUCTURE WHATSOEVER. IT'S.. JUST... ME..RAMBLING ABOUT WHAT I DO!! The more I write, the more I doubt myself and the more I worry that I won't get it. I want to go so much, i need to go T_T. I need to prove to (unimportant, unworthy) people that i'm not as useless as they think and I need to prove to my parents that I can succeed in something and I need to prove to myself that i can... well do something right in my life.

I'm also lagging behind in maths. By a lot. I hope she doesn't check homework tomorrow or i'll freak out and die. Nah i'll just say I forgot my book... *cringe*. On the bright side (yes to my surprise, there was something positive going on), there's an art excursion on Friday and we're going to Cockatoo Island to take pictures with film cameras! Ok before all of you freak out and die of jealously, trust me, it's not as great as you think (read this carrie!). Sure they are super beautiful to look at and they're an amazing device, but compared to a digital camera, I much prefer a digital DSLR. Here are the reasons why:

  • DSLRs are basically the super improved and copy-cat versions of the traditional mechanic film cameras which means they're usually lighter, less fragile, less effort to actually take the picture and the freaking PROCESS OF DEVELOPING THE FILM IS EASIER :P you just well, stick it in your computer and TADA! a picture!
  • film cameras are mega heavy.
  • the hole in the camera is hard to look through cos it's so small...
  • you CAN"T SEE THE PICTURE YOU TOOK SO YOU DON'T KNOW IF IT'S RIGHT.
  • there are all sorts of problems like if it's in focus, if the lighting was right, positioning, steady hand etcetc but for a DSLR they automatically adjust it for you and even if you're not happy with Auto mode, you can change the shutter speed and exposure yourself anyway
  • developing: this is the most annoying and tiring part of the whole process of GETTING THE PICTURE PHYSICALLY IN YOUR HAND which you could do easily with a modern day camera.
  • The evil black bag: get the roll of negatives out, get lots of complicated equipment, shove it in a massive, black, lightproof bag with scissors and other interesting equipment, shove your hands inside and sit down. The process of hell begins. You get scared of cutting too much, too little, you are trying to feel inside the bag for bits and pieces to fit together and all that time you're freaking out about touching the negatives cos if you touch it (not on the side), you RUIN IT.
  • I'm not gonna explain the part afterwards cos i'll just bore you to death but the developing part in the dark room is very tiring. Well at least when you started it was, after lots of practise, it's better.
  • The most frustrating thing is when you finalyl get your picture done in the dark room (long long process of testing the right filters, exposure time) you see that your picture is apparently 'out of focus'. But you think to yourself: WHAT THE HELL IT WAS SOOO IN FOCUS WHEN I TOOK IT!! you're WRONG. The film camera is a deceptive device and it should never be trusted. NEVER!!!
  • it's evil.
  • if you touch the negatives you DIE.
  • i printed some of my pics today and it turned out to be relatively successful except for the SCRATCH MARKS and how the subject was OUT OF FOCUS. Scratch marks? EHH?? That's what happens when you thought you were extremely careful with your negatives... but it turns out you touched it. Yeah good job ==
Anyway my rant is over. appreciate your lovely digital cameras.... i know i do a lot more now XD

I have crossed oceans of time to find you.
